Make sure you have:
  • USB Flash Drive or USB Hard Drive.
  • Latest version of LONE-TAR & RESCUE-RANGER 4.3.1.6

During the RESCUE-RANGER format of the USB device, it will make three total partitions. The first two will be for RESCUE-RANGER during Crash Recovery, and the third partition can be used for LONE-TAR backups. Make sure you know what the device name is for the USB drive.

Example:

If your system recognizes your USB device as /dev/sda

then the RESCUE-RANGER format on the USB device, will look like

/dev/sda1 <-- Reserved for RESCUE-RANGER
/dev/sda2 <-- Reserved for RESCUE-RANGER
/dev/sda3 <-- Reserved for backups

* If you wish only to use a USB drive as a emergency boot device and not a backup device, please proceed to the Set-up portion of this FAQ. If you wish to setup your USB device as a emergency boot device and backup device, please proceed with Pre Set-Up instructions.
